The communist regime in Albania collapsed in 1992 as part of the general failure of communism in Russia and eastern Europe. The succeeding regime did not get around to issuing coins until 1995 and this fifty lekë was issued in 1996 and again in 2000. It has not been struck since altho coomemorative fifty lekë (KM 81, 88, 86, 89, 90, 91, 95, 06, 100, 102) are depicted for 2001-13. As of August 2023, US$1 = 97.5 lekë, making this coin worth about US$0.51.
