Goldberg sale 128, lot 1336
G128-1336r.jpg

This specimen was lot 1336 in Goldberg sale 128 (Los Angeles, June 2022), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis d'or au buste nu, 1787-K (Bordeaux). Louis XVI. Mintage 18,531. Rare. The only example graded at PCGS. PCGS graded AU-58." This louis d'or à la tête nue from the Bordeaux mint is fairly common. The years 1786-87 are common as the mints melted down and reminted old tenor gold, but the later dates (1788-92) are much scarcer.

Recorded mintage: 41,865[2].

Specification: 7.65 g, 0.917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, designed by Benjamin Duvivier.

Catalog reference: Dr/4 № 661, Dr/2 № 605, Fr-475; Gad-361; KM-591.8.
