Sincona sale 39, lot 4572

This specimen was lot 4572 in Sincona sale 39 (Zurich, May 2017), where it sold for 31,000 CHF (about US$37,178 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Bern. 4 Dukaten o. J. (um 1750). Gekröntes Stadtwappen in einem Kranz aus einem Lorbeer- und Palmzweig. Rv. Kartusche mit Inschrift und Wertangabe. Sehr selten. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Bern, undated quadruple ducat. Obverse: crowned city arms between laurel and palm branches; reverse: cartouche with inscription and value. Very rare. Uncirculated. Magnificent condition.)"

The SCWC notes five different quadruple ducats were issued on this occasion (Friedberg lumps them all under Fr-146), all rare.
