Sincona sale 82, lot 1735

This specimen was lot 1735 in Sincona sale 82 (Zurich, May 2023), where it sold for 1,100 CHF (about US$1,472 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "George I. 1714-1727. 1/2 Guinea 1720, London. First laureate head. NGC F12." This type was struck 1715-24. While not rare, it is expensive in nice condition. The dates 1717 and 1718 appear the most often. A 1721 half guinea with an elephant and castle below the bust exists but is very rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 4.17 g, 0.917 fine gold; this specimen 4.10 g.

Catalog reference: KM 541.1, Spink 3635, Bull 539 var, Fr-329.
