This specimen was lot 31442 in Heritage sale 3076 (Long Beach, CA, September 2019), where it sold for $1,440. The catalog description[1] noted, "France. Louis XV gold Louis d'Or 1733-N MS64 NGC, Montpellier mint. A brightly lustrous example with a bold strike and charming golden chroma." This louis d'or aux lunettes was part of the great reform of 1726 which stabilized French coinage until the Revolution. Produced at 28 mints 1726-40, the type is common tho most individual dates are rare.

Recorded mintage: 13,245[2], a scarce date.

Specification: 8.16 g, .917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers.
