from Sincona sale 11, lot 1338

This specimen was lot 1338 in Sincona sale 11 (Zurich, May 2013), where it sold for 475 CHF (about US$588 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANKREICH Louis XV. 1715-1774. Louis d'or aux lunettes 1728, Strasbourg. Av. min. just. Sehr schön-gutes sehr schön. (France, Louis XV, 1715-74, louis d'or 'of the eyeglasses' of 1728, Strasbourg mint. Light adjustment marks on the obverse, very fine to good very fine.)"

This type is recorded for 1726-40 and is among the more common gold coins of the ancien régime, this date is somewhat scarce.

Recorded mintage: 22,457[2].

Specification: 8.16 g, .917 fine gold, 22-23 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Norbert Roëttiers, this specimen 8.10 g.
