Pfalz-Simmern 1572 thaler Dav-9635
This specimen was lot 682 in Stacks-Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2015), where it sold for $1,527.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Pfalz-Simmern. Taler, 1572. NGC EF-45. Toned with hints of rose, green, and pearl hues. Some wear, but an overall appealing piece. From the Rockaway Collection." The Palatinate, on the border with France, was divided several times. The Pfalz-Simmern line, founded 1410, expired in 1685 and the county passed to Pfalz-Neuburg. This thaler was issued 1572-74 along with a klippe double thaler (Dav-9634).
