from Steve Album sale 45, lot 2790

This specimen was lot 2790 in Stephen Album sale 45 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2023), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "TUSCANY: Giovanni Gaston, 1723-1737, AR 5 quattrini (crazia), ND, a lovely mint state example! PCGS graded MS63, ex Joe Sedillot Collection." No such denomination as a five quattrini is listed in the SCWC for Tuscany but then no minor coinage is listed for this ruler. Gian Gastone de' Medici was the last Medici to rule Tuscany. His death without issue in 1737 ended almost 300 years of rule by that family. The grand duchy passed to Francis of Lorraine, who became Holy Roman emperor in 1745.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specifications: silver or billion.

Catalog reference: Pucci-30, MIR-348.
