Sincona sale 47, lot 1507

This specimen was lot 1507 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 90 CHF (about US$108 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GERMANY, Stolberg-Stolberg, Grafschaft, Friedrich Botho und Karl Ludwig, 1761-1768. 1/3 Taler 1764, Stolberg. Vorzüglich. Minimal justiert. (Germany, county of Stolberg-Stolberg, Frederick Botho and Charles Louis, 1761-68, one-third thaler of 1764, Stolberg mint. Extremely fine, Slightly adjusted.)"

The SCWC lists this type for 1764 and 1766 and, unlike the thalers, is probably not rare in circulated condition. This denomination was issued as late as 1796.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 28.06 g, .833 fine silver, this specimen 6.95 g.

Catalog reference: Friederich 1990, KM 273.
