from Jean Elsen sale 132, lot 622

This specimen was lot 622 in Jean Elsen sale 132 (Brussels, March 2017), where it sold for €150 (about US$190 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"ITALIE, ETATS PONTIFICAUX, Innocent XII (1691-1700), (Antonio Pignatelli), AR giulio, 1694, an 4, Rome. D/ Armoiries. R/ BELLVM CONTERAM DE TERRA Une bombarde tirant à d. A g., un soldat ten. une lance. Très Beau. (Italy, Pontifical State, Innocent XII (1691-1700), silver giulio of 1694, year 4, Rome mint. Obverse: arms; reverse: a cannon fires to right; to left, a soldier bears a lance. Very fine.)"

This is one of twelve giulii for this ruler, this one a plea for peace between France and Austria during one of Louis XIV's wars.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better type.

Specification: 3.05 g, .917 fine silver, this specimen 2,92 g.
