The obverse is the portrait is of Emilio Aguinaldo, who led the unsuccessful fight for independence from the United States in 1899-1903. The five peso coin has a face value of about ten cents (April 2019). This design, struck since 1995, was recently (2018) retired in favor of a smaller and cheaper type in nickel plated steel.

Recorded mintage: unknown but common.

Specification: 7.7 g, nickel brass, 27 mm diameter.
