The specimen shown is a nickel brass five pesos of the current circulating series. This piece has a face value (May 2014) of about eleven cents and was first issued in 1995. The obverse is the portrait is of Emilio Aguinaldo, who led the unsuccessful fight for independence from the United States in 1899-1903.
