Mexico 1891-Go R 10 centavos

from the San Dimas collection

This specimen is a common date of a series struck 1869-97 at the Guanajuato mint. This ten centavos piece replaced the silver one real struck since colonial times. Several transitional designs were issued 1863-70, including one by the Maximilian regime, before settling on this type. It, in turn, was replaced by a ten centavos piece with a redesigned reverse in 1898. An overmintmark, Go/Ho, and an overassayer, R/G, are recorded for the date but awarded no premium.
