Sincona sale 46, lot 278

This specimen was lot 278 in Sincona sale 46 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 4,250 CHF (about US$5,100 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Preussen, Königreich, Wilhelm I. 1861-1888. 10 Mark 1886 A, Berlin. Sehr selten. Sehr schön-vorzüglich. (Germany, kingdom of Prussia, William I, 1861-88, ten mark of 1886, Berlin mint. Very rare, Very fine-extremely fine.)"

Altho this type of 1874-88 was struck in large numbers and is common, there are several rare dates in the series, of which this is one. It was produced at Berlin (shown here), Hanover (mintmark "B") and Frankfurt (mintmark "C").

Recorded mintage: 14,498.

Specification: 3.98 g, .900 fine gold, this specimen 3.93 g.
