Germany 1886-F mark

Sincona sale 57, lot 2776

This specimen was lot 2776 in Sincona sale 57 (Zürich, May 2019), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$214 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"DEUTSCHLAND | Empire | Kleinmünzen des Kaiserreichs, 1 Mark 1896 F, Stuttgart. NGC MS67. (Germany, empire, small change, one mark of 1896, Stuttgart mint, superb gem uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1873-87 at nine mints; this specimen is a product of the Stuttgart mint ("F"). It is a somewhat common date. In 1891, a modified eagle was introduced and this denomination was struck in that form until 1918.

Recorded mintage: 1,031,000.

Specification: 5.55 g, 0.900 fine silver, 24 mm diameter.
