Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72115

This specimen was lot 72115 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "MAURITIUS. Rupee, 1990. Llantrisant Mint. PCGS SPECIMEN-62 Gold Shield. Wholly blazing and brilliant, this Gem offers quality for the type that is seldom encountered. Not surprisingly, just three have been seen finer at PCGS. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." Seewoosagur Ramgoolam (1900-85) was a politician who organized independence for Mauritius and served as its first leader 1968-82. His portrait appears on Mauritian coinage for 1987-99, including this rupee.
