Künker sale 352, lot 1884

This specimen was lot 1884 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €4,200 (about US$5,845 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BREMEN, STADT, Dukat 1723, mit Titel Karls VI. GOLD. RR Nur 470 Exemplare geprägt. Gewellt, kl. Randfehler, vorzüglich. (Germany, city of Bremen, ducat of 1723, struck in the name of Charles VI. Only 470 pieces struck. Wavy, rim nick, extremely fine.)"

Bremen, long a member of the Hanseatic League, is today still a major port on the North Sea. Its gold issues in the eighteenth century are few, being limited to ducats of 1710, 1723 (shown here) and 1745-46 (Fr-424).

Recorded mintage: 470.

Specification: 3.50 g, .986 fine gold, this specimen 3,48 g.

Catalog reference: KM 172, Fr-417; Jungk 429.
