Sincona sale 33, lot 3014

This specimen was lot 3014 in Sincona sale 33 (Zurich, October 2016), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$119 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"THE NETHERLANDS | Overijssel, Provinz. 28 Stuiver 1685. Mit Gegenstempel von Holland. Sehr schön. (province of Overijssel, 28 stuivers of 1685, with Holland counterstamp. Very fine.)"

This type is noted for 1685-89 and is not priced as particularly expensive tho choice specimens are doubtless rare. This one was counterstamped "HOL" in 1693, indicating that it was of acceptable weight to continue to circulate. The counterstamp is rare.

Recorded mintage: 228,000 for 1685-89.

Specification: 19.5 g, .673 fine silver, .421 troy oz ASW, this specimen 19.09 g.

Catalog reference: Delmonte 1105, KM 55 (without counterstamp), KM 69.13 (with counterstamp, listed under Holland).
