Netherlands 1913 10 gulden
This specimen was lot 959 in Sincona sale 69 (Zurich, May 2021), where it sold for 300 CHF (about US$398 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Kingdom of the Netherlands. Wilhelmina 1890-1948. 10 Gulden 1913, Utrecht. Münzzeichen Seepferdchen. FDC. (kingdom of the Netherlands, Wilhelmina, 1890-1948, ten gulden of 1913, Utrecht mint, seahorse privy mark. Uncirculated.)" This type, struck 1911-17, features the "mantled bust" of queen Wilhelmina. On her coronation in 1898, the regency ended and she assumed full powers of the throne. This bust was used on all the silver and gold denominations from the ten cents to the ten gulden. The Netherlands, remaining neutral during World War One, was one of the few countries that continued to issue gold.
