Ecuador 1848 medio real rev DSLR.jpg

This specimen is one of a series of half reales struck 1848-49. No more half reales were struck after 1849. It is scarce, but not rare. All pre-decimal Ecuadorian coinage is hard to find and hotly pursued. It is lightweight and debased, similar to the infamous Bolivian half soles of 1830.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.55-1.85 g, .667 fine silver, 15-17 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: KM 35.
