Kwangtung Province (now Guangdong) is on the south coast of China, and surrounds Hong Kong and Macau. The mint in the city of Guangzhou (Canton) opened in 1888 and issued a large number of coins until closure in 1931. The specimen shown was lot 21610 in Ponterio sale 165 (Hong Kong, April 2012), where it sold for US$1,016. The catalog description^[1] noted, “CHINA. Kwangtung. Cent, Year 1 (1912). NGC MS-63 BN. 廣東 分，民國 1 年（1912 年）。NGC MS-63 BN.” A brass type (Y-417a) was issued concurrently with this and is included in the mintage.
