This specimen was lot 72367 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2019), where it sold for $720. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. 2 Toman, AH 1297 (1879). Nasir al-Din Shah. NGC Unc Details--Cleaned. A little weakly struck as is usually seen from this series, with some directional hairlines on the obverse where someone attempted to enhance the appearance. Despite the noted impairment a presentable lustrous example with a nice look." The double toman was originally 6.9 g, then 6.51 g, then 5.74 g as shown here. None are common. This type was struck AH 1296-1299.
Recorded mintage: unknown but a very scarce date.
Specification: 5.74 g, .900 fine gold.
