Stack's Bowers October 2020 Collectors Choice sale, lot 72057

This specimen was lot 72057 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, October 2020), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "JAMAICA. 5 Cents, 1978. PCGS SPECIMEN-68 Gold Shield. Variety with wide legend letters. An incredibly brilliant, nearly flawless specimen, this minor offers exceptionally glossy and dazzling surfaces, and is tied with just one other at this ultimate grade in the PCGS census. Ex: Kings Norton Mint Collection." This type was struck by the Royal Mint for Jamaica in 1969-72, 1975-89. The Franklin mint also produced this denomination with narrow letters (KM 53) in 1971-84.

Recorded mintage: 2,000,000.

Specification: 2.83 g, copper-nickel, 19.4 mm diameter.
