The first specimen was lot 7660 in Ponterio sale 152 (New York, January 2010), where it sold for $460. The catalog description^[1] noted, "FRANCE. 1/2 Ecu, 1760-R. Louis XV (1715-74). SCARCE Orleans Mint. Nicely toned. NGC XF-45." This type was struck 1741-74 during the reign of Louis XV; it is reasonably common but most dates (including this one) are rare. The "R" mintmark is recorded for 1741-44, 1755-60 and 1764 but none of the issues seem to be common.

Recorded mintage: 9,960.

Specification: 14.74 g, .917 fine silver, edge lettered DOMINE SALVUM FAC REGEM, obverse legend LUD.XV.D.G.FR.ET NAV.REX.
