New Zealand 1980 20 cents
In 1967, New Zealand abandoned the sterling coinage she had used since the days of Captain Cook and adopted the decimal dollar and cent. This twenty cent piece was struck 1967-85 at London, Canberra and Ottawa, New Zealand lacking her own mint. It was made in large quantities and is considerably more common than the succeeding type with the Maklouf bust of the queen (KM 62, struck 1986-89).
Recorded mintage: 40,000,000 (Ottawa) + 27,000 (Royal Mint, sets only, round O) + 17,000 proofs.
Specification: 11.31 g, copper-nickel, 28.5 mm diameter, designed by Arnold Machin and Stuart Devlin.
