New Zealand 1980 10 cents rev DSLR.jpg

This type was struck for circulation in New Zealand 1970-85. The previous type, KM 35 of 1967-69, stated 10/ONE SHILLING on the reverse. It is the same module as the old shilling. Some dates, such as 1983-84, were struck only for collector sets. A more mature bust of the queen was used 1986-89, whereupon the one and two cent coins were terminated. Coinage, formerly obtained exclusively from the London mint, is divided among that mint and the Canberra mint and Ottawa mint. It was demonetized in 2006.

Recorded mintage: 28,000,000 plus 44,000 proofs. The proofs have "oval 0" and "round 0" varieties.

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.62 mm diameter, reeded edge, designed by Arnold Machin and Stuart Devlin.

Catalog reference: KM 41.1.
