This specimen was lot 1317 in Stephen Album sale 27 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2017), where it sold for $411.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Napoleon I, Emperor, 1804-1815, 1808-D. Lovely bluish toning, NGC graded MS62." This type was struck 1808 only and represents the fifth type of franc struck under the new decimal coinage system. This Lyon mint issue is awarded a 50% premium over the common date.

Recorded mintage: 751,167.

Specification: 5 g, 0.900 fine silver, 23 mm diameter, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE, designed by Pierre Joseph Tiolier.
