Gorizia 1788-K soldo
This specimen was lot 75321 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY. Gorizia. Soldo, 1788-K. Kremnica Mint. Giuseppe II. PCGS MS-64 Brown. A curious issue produced by the Kremnitz Mint for the archdiocese of Gorizia during its period under Habsburg rule. Offered here in superb near-Gem condition, this silky mahogany example is sure to please." Gorizia (German Gorz) is today a village on the border between Italy and Slovenia. From 1500 to 1809 and 1813-66 it was part of the Hapsburg domain. Special coins were struck for it, likely because it was better connected to Venice than to the rest of Austria.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
