Sincona sale 83, lot 5065

This specimen was lot 5065 in Sincona sale 83 (Zürich, May 2023), where it sold for 180 CHF (about US$241 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWITZERLAND Zug, Dicken 1615, Zug. Vorzüglich (Extremely fine)." A dicken was twenty-four kreuzer or two-fifths gulden. This type is noted in the SCWC for 1609-22 and is listed as fairly common. The figure on the obverse is St Oswald, a British king who converted the Northumbrians.
