Sincona sale 80, lot 2557

This specimen was lot 2557 in Sincona sale 80 (Zurich, October 2022), where it sold for 2,557 CHF (about US$3,065 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "ITALY | Königreich, Vittorio Emanuele II. 1861-1878. 20 Lire 1864, Torino. About uncirculated." This specimen is one of a series struck 1861-70 at the Turin mint during the reign of Victorio Emanuele II of Italy (1861-78). It is struck to the same standard as the contemporary French twenty francs. This type was also struck in Rome (1870-78) and Milan (1872-74).

Recorded mintage: 609,000.

Specification: 6.45 g, 0.900 fine gold, .186 troy oz AGW. This specimen is 6.43 g.
