Norway 1980 200 kroner

from Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73014

This specimen was lot 73014 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $120. The catalog description^[1] noted, "NORWAY. 200 Kroner, 1980. Kongsberg Mint. Olav V. PCGS MS-67. Commemorating the 35th anniversary of liberation. Depiction of Akershus Castle on reverse. Mostly blast white surfaces with a hint of toning near the peripheries. Seldom offered at auction, this should see spir[i]ted attention." The anniversary commemorated here is liberation from the Nazi occupation in 1945. Given that this coin would never circulate, we don't know why the Norwegians didn't use good silver.
