Salzburg 1746-FMK thaler Dav-1244
This specimen was lot 1545 in Sincona sale 76 (Zurich, May 2022), where it sold for 3,000 CHF (about US$3,642 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"HOLY ROMAN EMPIRE - AUSTRIA. Salzburg, Erzbistum. Jakob Ernst von Liechtenstein, 1745-1747. Taler 1746, Salzburg. Mit der Signatur FMK (Franz Matzenkopf, Münzmeister in Salzburg, ca. 1727-1754). Sehr selten. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC MS60. Prachtvolle Erhaltung mit herrlicher Patina. (archbishopric of Salzburg, Jacob Ernest of Liechtenstein, 1745-47, thaler of 1746, Salzburg mint, with mintmaster's initials "FMK". Very rare, Extremely fine-uncirculated, Beautiful condition with magnificent patina.)"
This one year type is rare, especially compared to the thalers of his successors Sigismund III and Hieronymus von Colleredo.
