Sincona sale 47, lot 3216

This specimen was lot 3216 in Sincona sale 47 (Zurich, May 2018), where it sold for 100 CHF (about US$120 including buyer's fees). The catalog description^[1] noted,

"SWITZERLAND, Helvetische Republik, Rappen 1800 B, Bern. Fast FDC. Herrliche Patina. (Helvetic Republic, rappen of 1800, Bern mint. About uncirculated, Most attractive patina.)"

The Helvetian Republic was a puppet state set up by the French in 1798 on the remnants of the old Swiss Confederation. Napoleon annexed it outright in 1803. Most of its issues are rare and expensive. This type was issued 1800-02.
