from the Stack's Bowers 2022 Collector's Choice sale, lot 75027
SB222-75027r.jpg

This specimen was lot 75027 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it sold for $660. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS. Kampen. Ducat, 1649. Ferdinand III. NGC MS-62. Though somewhat softly struck, the present specimen delivers a sunny hue and devices free from wear." The Generality struggled for decades to close the municipal and local mints because of their habit of cheating on the weight and fineness. This type was struck 1586-1603 and 1646-60 and is fairly scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 3.49 g, 0.986 fine gold.

Catalog reference: Fr-161; KM-44; Delm-1117.
