This specimen was lot 72311 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $312. The catalog description[1] noted, "BOLIVIA. Sol, 1860-PTS FJ. Potosi Mint. PCGS MS-63. Light ash gray toning with a bold depiction of Simon Bolivar. Most of this type was spent, not saved, so to find one this choice is most unusual." This type, which restored the fineness to 903 thousandths, was struck 1860-63 in some numbers. When the eight soles was reduced from 27 g to 20 g in 1859, all the minor coinage shrank proportionately.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 2.5 g, 0.903 fine silver.
Catalog reference: KM-134.2.
