Heritage sale 3089, lot 32271

This specimen was lot 32271 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $1,140. The catalog description[1] noted, "Australia. Edward VII gold Sovereign 1908-S MS64 NGC, Sydney mint. The sole finest example certified by NGC, and tied for the finest with a handful of others at PCGS. Bright, satiny surfaces with a scattering of small nicks prevent a gem designation." This date, from a type struck 1902-10 at Perth, Melbourne and Sydney (shown here), is common.

Recorded mintage: 2,017,000.

Specification: 7.98 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.2355 troy oz AGW.
