This specimen was lot 57074 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $960. The catalog description[1] noted, "INDIA. Mughal Empire. Rupee, AH 1038 (1629). Agra Mint. Shah Jahan. NGC MS-62." The SCWC records that 23 of the over one hundred mints in the Empire struck rupees during year 2, some of type 222 (shown here), others of type 224. The Agra mint is listed for years 1 and 2. It is common. Agra was made the capital of the Mughal Empire by Babur and greatly enlarged during Akbar's reign.
