Jean Elsen sale 127, lot 1071

This specimen was lot 1071 in Jean Elsen sale 127 (Brussels, December 2015), where it sold for €230 (about US$295 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"VLAANDEREN, Graafschap, Philips IV (1621-1665), AR dukaton, 1651, Brugge. 2e type. Vz/ Geharnarst bb. r. Kz/ Gekroond wapenschild gehouden door twee leeuwen. Onderaan het juweel van het Gulden Vlies. Deels zwak geslagen. Mooie patina. Zeer Fraai à Prachtig. (county of Flanders, Philip IV, 1621-65, silver ducaton of 1651, Bruges mint, second type. Obverse: armored bust to right; reverse: crowned arms supported by two lions, jewel of the Golden Fleece below. Slightly double struck, nice patina, very fine to extremely fine.)"

This type of 1636-65 is priced about the same as the ducatons of Brabant (Dav-4454).
