Guatemala 1805-NG M 8 reales
In 1776, an earthquake demolished Antigua Guatemala (including the mint) and a new city was built some miles away. To mark the move, the mintmark was changed to "NG" ("Nueva Guatemala", still the capital of Guatemala) on all issues of 1777 and after. Assayer "M" is noted for the years 1785-1821. This type was struck 1791-1808. Assayer "M," for Manuel Eusebio Sanchez, is recorded for 1785-1836. This specimen was lot 20468 in Ponterio sale 161 (Chicago, August 2011), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, GUATEMALA. 8 Reales, 1805-M. Light rub on the high points, otherwise lustrous and attractive NGC AU-55."
