Sedwick Treasure Auction 35, lot 301
Sed35-0301r.jpg

This specimen was lot 301 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 35 (Winter Park, FL, May 2024), where it sold for $390. The catalog description[1] noted, "NETHERLANDS (United), Westfriesland, "lion" daalder, 1622. Broad flan with full legends including bold (and desirable) full date, full inner details, no major corrosion but a few spots of dark "horn silver.". With generic certificate from the salvor. Recovered from Campen, sunk in 1627 off the Isle of Wight, south of England." Lion daalders were struck in most of the provinces that today make up the Netherlands. This type is recorded in the SCWC for Westfriesland for 1604-1713 with various mintmarks. This subtype was struck 1606-30 and 1650. Most dates are common but choice specimens are rare as striking quality was low.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 27.68 g, 0.750 fine silver, this specimen 26.71 grams.

Catalog reference: Dav-4870; KM-14.5; Delm-836.
