This specimen was lot 46 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $7,200. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA, Bogotá, gold cob 2 escudos, 1660, assayer R below denomination II to right, mintmark NR to left, rare, NGC AU 58, ex-Caballero (stated on label), Tauler Plate. Very broad flan with terrifically bold full shield between NR to left and II-R to right, plus 100% complete king's name and ordinal PHILIPPVS IIII, the cross also full but rather doubled, yet with clear 1660 date, butter-yellow color with contrasting toning in crevices. Pedigreed to the Caballero de las Yndias Collection (Aureo & Calicó auction of April 2009, lot 126) and Plate Coin 164 on page 235 of Rafael Tauler's Oro Macuquino (2011)." This type was struck 1628-55 for Philip IV. Most survivors lack legible dates and therefore many dates are not listed altho the Santa Fé mint probably operated continuously during that period.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 g, 0.917 fine gold, this specimen 6.68 grams.
