This specimen was lot 1971 in Jean Elsen sale 164 (Brussels, March 2026), where it sold for €2,400 (about US$3,341 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"ITALIE, SAVOIE et SARDAIGNE, Charles Emmanuel III (1730-1773), AR scudo sardo, 1769, Turin. Pour la Sardaigne. D/ T. nue à g. R/ Écu orné et couronné. Très Beau à Superbe. (Italy, kingdom of Sardinia, Charles Emmanuel III, 1760-73, silver scudo sardo of 1769, Turin mint, struck for Sardinia. Obverse: bare head left; reverse: crowned ornate arms. Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"
In 1799, king Carlo Emanuele IV was evicted by Napoleon and the region converted to the Ligurian Republic then annexed to France. Sardinia did not recover her independence until 1815. This type was issued 1768-69 specifically for the island of Sardinia to a lighter standard than the mainland scudo (Dav-1494). It is very scarce.
Recorded mintage: 40,470 for 1768-69.
