Künker sale 352, lot 1483

This specimen was lot 1483 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabruck, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €900 (about US$1,253 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TÜRKEI, Mohammed V. 1909-1918. 250 Piaster 1912 (= 1331 AH), 5. Regierungsjahr, Konstantinopel (Istanbul). GOLD. Vorzüglich. (Turkey, Ottoman empire, Mohammed V, 1909-18, 250 piastres of 1912, year 5, Istanbul mint. Extremely fine.)"

This type was struck in moderate numbers for years 1 thru 6. Most bear signs of use in jewelry.

Recorded mintage: 18,143.

Specification: 18.04 g, 0.917 fine gold, 0.531 troy oz AGW, this specimen 16,54 g in gold.
