Sincona sale 59, lot 1567

This specimen was lot 1567 in Sincona sale 59 (Zürich, October 2019), where it sold for 800 CHF (about US$969 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"IRAN, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi Shah, 1320-1358 SH (1941-1979). 1 Pahlavi 1331 SH (1952). Seltener Jahrgang. Vorzüglich-FDC. (empire of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, 1941-79, pahlavi of 1952. Rare date, Extremely fine-uncirculated.)"

This type, struck SH 1330-1353 during the reign of Muhammed Reza Shah (r. 1941-79), was minted to the standard of a British sovereign. In 1951, the relief was lowered in an attempt to solve striking weakness. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 8.14 g, 0.900 fine gold, this specimen 8.12 g.

Catalog reference: KM 1162, Fr-101.
