This specimen was lot 6792 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2017), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "IRAN. Pahlavi, SH 1329 (1950). NGC MS-65. Lower mintage year with only 4,000 pieces struck. Mild toning on unfettered surfaces with full luster. Reverse lion slightly flat. Tied with three other pieces in this grade with only one piece graded a point finer." This type, struck SH 1324-1330 during the reign of Muhammed Reza Shah (r. 1941-79), was minted to the standard of a British sovereign. In 1951, the relief was lowered in an attempt to solve striking weakness such as is visible on this specimen. The coins generally trade as bullion coins.
