Sincona sale 22, lot 1609
Paderborn in 1547, between Lippe and Waldeck

This specimen was lot 1609 in Sincona sale 22 (Zürich, May 2015), where it sold for 1,200 CHF (about US$1,507 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Paderborn, Bistum, Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich, 1704-1718 Taler 1710. Münster Fast vorzüglich. (Germany, bishopric of Paderborn, Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich (1704-18), thaler of 1710, Munster mint, choice extremely fine.)"

This rare type is listed for 1709-11. The bishop of Paderborn was suffragan to the bishop of Münster (Franz Arnold was also bishop of Münster) but still managed to issue a few coins for his domain. The bishopric was annexed to Prussia in 1803, during Napoleon's reorganization of Germany.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: silver, this specimen 28.96 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-2509; KM-178, Schwede 215 A/a.
