Paderborn 1711-JW thaler Dav-2509
This specimen was lot 3750 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €650 (about US$921 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"PADERBORN, BISTUM Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht, 1704-1718. Reichstaler 1711, Münster. Feine Patina, min. Randfehler, sehr schön +. (Germany, bishopric of Paderborn, Franz Arnold von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht, 1704-18, thaler of 1711, Münster mint. Fine patina, edge defect, very fine or better.)"
This rare type is listed for 1709-11. The bishop of Paderborn was suffragan to the bishop of Münster (Franz Arnold was also bishop of Münster) but still managed to issue a few coins for his domain. The bishopric was annexed to Prussia in 1803, during Napoleon's reorganization of Germany.
