Künker sale 263, lot 1164

This specimen was lot 1164 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €3,000 (about US$3,879 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM August, 1553-1586. Taler 1556, Dresden. Hübsche Patina, sehr schön. Der 1. Dresdner Taler. (Germany, Electorate of Saxony, August I, 1553-86, thaler of 1556, Dresden mint, the first thaler struck there. Toned very fine.)"

This type of 1556-59 is somewhat common.
