Saxony 1556 thaler Dav-9791
This specimen was lot 3769 in Künker Auction 426 (Osnabrück, July 2025), where it sold for €320 (about US$453 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SACHSEN, KURFÜRSTENTUM August, 1553-1586. Taler 1556, Annaberg. Winz. Schrötlingsfehler am Rand, kl. Kratzer, min. korrodiert, sehr schön. (Germany, electorate of Saxony, Augustus, 1553-86, thaler of 1556, Annaberg mint. Minor edge defect, hairlines, minor corrosion, very fine.)"
Saxon thalers of 1556 include KM MB148/Dav-9793, MB157/Dav-9791, MB158/Dav-9791 (shown here), KM MB181/Dav-9794 and KM MB182/Dav-9795. This type was struck 1554-58 and is somewhat scarce.
