Australia 1939 half penny KM-35

Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale, lot 73032

This specimen was lot 73032 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2022), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "AUSTRALIA. 1/2 Penny, 1939. Melbourne Mint. George VI. NGC MS-63 Red Brown. Commonwealth reverse. A Choice example displaying a rich ruddy coloration, this Halfpenny is certainly not lacking for attractiveness." This type was struck 1938-39 with the old-style reverse carried over from George V. A few half pennies with the new kangaroo reverse were struck in 1939; these are very rare.

Recorded mintage: 4,382,000 plus proofs plus 504,000 of KM 41.

Specification: 15.7 g, bronze, 25.5 mm diameter.
